The Belgian Tervuren was named for the small Belgian village of Tervuren. It is one of the four varieties of Belgian Sheepdogs. All four Belgian Sheepdog breeds share the same origins, but they are distinguished by different coat types and colors. Versatile and highly intelligent, all four varieties of the Belgian Sheepdog excel at a variety of talents, including but not limited to police work such as narcotics and bomb detection, protection and schutzhund, search and rescue, also obedience, agility, tracking, herding, sled and cart pulling. Alert, watchful and energetic, the Tervuren is an active and dependable companion. It is aloof with strangers, but very protective of its family.
